Fall Carlisle (September 28-October 2) is the final automotive themed weekend in Carlisle, Pennsylvania each year. As part of the event, guests flock to central Pennsylvania to buy, sell, and trade all things automotive in a massive automotive flea market. At the same time, Carlisle Auctions is hosting its final PA based classic and collector car auction at the Carlisle Expo Center (September 29-30). While rain may have dampened the final two days of Fall Carlisle itself, the auction went off without a hitch under sunny skies outdoors, and a temperature-controlled auction arena indoors.
A total of 455 lots crossed the block and it all started with a charity consignment, a 1923 Ford T-Bucket, selling for $8,250 and seeing dollars benefit Mission 23. From there, it was non-stop excitement, including TWO great collections and the popular All-Truck Hour.
As collections go, Thursday hosted the Bill Miller collection, a showcase of 20 rides direct from Carlisle Events co-founder Bill Miller, while Friday welcomed nearly a dozen lots from enthusiast and builder Dave Ferro. Each collection saw sales, including one of Dave’s lots which benefitted Gold Star Mothers.
In addition to their collections, the All-Truck Hour continued to be a hit, with 60 minutes of nothing but trucks. Beyond that, decades of past, present and future classics found new homes, including the top seller; a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am.
From the first smack of the gavel on the 29th to the final hammer to fall on the 30th, the interior of the Expo Center and its adjoining parking lot were hopping. The roar of the engines, the smell of car care products; it was a true sensory experience.
The top five (5) selling cars totaled nearly $360,000, with Thursday’s top seller being the ’67 Corvette, while the Oldsmobile 442 convertible was tops for Friday. The top five (5) are as follows:
1.)1969 Pontiac Trans Am - $98,280
2.)1962 Chevy Corvette - $87,500
3.)1956 Chevy Belair - $82,080
4.)1954 Kaiser Darrin - $78,000
5.)1956 Plymouth Belvedere - $75,600
